Strong Critique Ahead of Elections
In a robust critique of the Congress party ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini labeled the party as “anti-Dalit” and accused its leaders of disrespecting Dalit representatives. His comments were made during a press conference on September 24, 2024, and follow remarks from Union Minister Amit Shah regarding Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit.
Historical Context of Anti-Dalit Sentiment
CM Saini asserted, “The basic character of Congress has always been anti-Dalit. They have historically insulted their own Dalit leaders. When any Dalit leader in Congress attempts to rise through hard work, the party’s tendency has been to suppress them.”
Concerns Over Past Governance
In a post on social media platform X, Saini emphasized that there is no need to explain to Dalits in Haryana how dangerous and violent the Congress rule was during Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s tenure from 2009 to 2014. He noted, “The memories of that time continue to haunt them. In all cases of Dalit oppression, the Hooda government either supported or remained silent.”
Accusations Against Congress Leadership
Saini also accused the Congress of humiliating prominent Dalit figures, including Kumari Selja, and dismissed the party’s treatment of leaders like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram as disrespectful. He stated, “Congress has humiliated and despised every significant Dalit leader, from Baba Saheb Ambedkar to Ashok Tanwar.”
