The Haryana government has taken decisive action against corrupt patwaris (revenue officials) following the identification of 370 corrupt patwaris and 170 private individuals across 21 districts. These officials, responsible for maintaining land records such as ownership certifications, mutations, and corrections, have been accused of bribery and misuse of power. A detailed list of these corrupt officials was compiled by the Financial Commissioner Revenue (FCR), and the names were communicated to deputy commissioners.
In response, Deputy Commissioners have been directed to take strict action against these officials, which includes initiating investigations, imposing penalties, and ensuring accountability. A two-week deadline has been set for submitting an action report to the state government. The state’s Revenue Minister Vipul Goel emphasized that this move aims to curb misconduct, protect the public interest, and enhance the transparency of land administration processes in Haryana.
The list reveals that Kaithal district has the highest number of corrupt patwaris, followed by Sonepat, Mahendergarh, and Gurugram. Many of these officials have been working in the same areas for over 8 to 10 years, exploiting citizens seeking land-related services. The government has also highlighted the involvement of private brokers, who assist these corrupt officials in extorting money from the public.
This step marks the government’s commitment to combating corruption in the revenue department and improving the integrity of land record management in Haryana.
