On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Professor Ashim Kumar Ghosh as the Governor of Haryana, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa, and Kavinder Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
At the same time, the President accepted the resignation of Brigadier (Dr.) BD Mishra (Retd) from his role as the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Who is Kavinder Gupta?
Kavinder Gupta, the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Jammu and Kashmir. He previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir during the tenure of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
About Brigadier (Retd) BD Mishra
Brigadier BD Mishra is a retired officer of the Indian Army with a distinguished career spanning over 33 years. He was the former Commander of the Counter Hijack Force of the National Security Guard (NSG), popularly known as the Black Cat Commandos.
Mishra retired from the Army on July 31, 1995, and later served as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh starting October 3, 2017.
Tenure as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh
At the age of 85, BD Mishra was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh on February 12, 2023, following the resignation of Radha Krishnan Mathur. Mishra became the second Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, succeeding Mathur who served from October 31, 2019, to February 11, 2023.
