Schools and colleges across North India remain closed as persistent heavy rainfall causes flood-like conditions, landslides, and unsafe environments for students. State administrations have declared holidays in multiple regions to ensure student safety.


North India Schools Closed Today

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh have announced school closures due to overflowing rivers, waterlogging, and infrastructure damage caused by recent heavy rains.


Uttar Pradesh

  • Mathura: The Yamuna River’s water levels rose rapidly, flooding schools. Holidays announced for all classes up to 12th on September 3–4.

  • Meerut: Schools for nursery to Class 8, across government, CBSE, ICSE, and Madrasa boards, remain closed on September 4.

  • Hapur: All schools from nursery to Class 12 are closed due to ongoing heavy rainfall.

  • Agra: The Education Department ordered secondary and other board schools to remain shut on September 4, 2025.


Haryana

  • Ambala: All schools, colleges, and educational institutions remain closed till September 4.

  • Jhajjar: Schools, Anganwadi centres, and colleges closed until September 6, staff will remain on duty.

  • Kaithal: Closure of schools, colleges, ITIs, nurseries, and sports stadiums in Guhla subdivision on September 4.

  • Rohtak: Government and private schools remain closed until further notice.


Punjab

  • Schools and colleges, initially reopening on September 4, now remain closed till September 7 due to flooding and waterlogging.

  • Both government and private institutions will follow this schedule.


Jammu & Kashmir

  • Kashmir Division: All schools remain closed on September 4 as a precautionary measure.

  • Jammu Division: Schools closed until September 5 to ensure student safety amid continuous rainfall.


Himachal Pradesh

  • Complete closure of government and private schools, colleges, and DIETs till September 7.

  • Education Secretary Rakesh Kanwar cited persistent heavy rainfall, landslides, road blockages, and infrastructure damage as reasons.


Chandigarh

  • Schools, colleges, and technical education institutions remain closed from September 4–6.

  • Classes will resume only after a thorough safety inspection of all educational buildings.
