In a shocking development, senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), was found dead at his official residence in Chandigarh Sector 11 on Tuesday. Police officials confirmed it as a case of suicide, but no note has been recovered so far.

Incident at Chandigarh Residence

According to initial reports, the officer allegedly shot himself inside his government accommodation. The Chandigarh Police reached the spot immediately, sealed the premises, and recovered the weapon used. Forensic teams are examining the site to gather evidence.

No Suicide Note Found

Authorities stated that the exact reason behind the tragic step remains unclear. “An inquiry has been launched, and statements from family members and staff are being recorded. The cause of the incident will be confirmed only after investigation,” a senior police official said.

Family and Recent Posting

Kumar’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer, is currently in Japan on an official visit with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Just a week earlier, on September 29, Kumar was transferred to Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, a high-security prison that houses Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving sentences in sexual assault and other criminal cases.

Shock in Police Fraternity

The sudden death of Y Puran Kumar has created shockwaves in the Haryana Police and administrative circles. Several top officials from both Haryana and Chandigarh rushed to his residence after hearing the news.

Investigation Underway

Police are exploring whether recent professional pressures or personal issues may have played a role in the incident. The officer’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the detailed report is awaited.

Authorities confirmed that no suicide note has been found at the location, making the case even more complex.
