Residents of Nathowal village in Ludhiana district recently honoured Gurdeep Singh Buttar and Navdeep Kaur Buttar for their outstanding achievements in sports. The event celebrated their dedication and inspired the community.
Gurdeep Singh Buttar: Hockey Champion
Gurdeep began playing hockey at the age of 7-8, guided by his father, Balwant Singh, who coached the Hockey Indian Services teams (Army, Navy, Air Force). Gurdeep completed graduation and post-graduation from Patiala. He represented his university and state in senior national and university-level competitions six times each.
Currently, he works as Principal Accountant General in Kolkata. Recently, Gurdeep represented India in the 40-plus category at the World Masters Games and Asian Championship in Hong Kong from November 26-30, winning a gold medal.
He said, “My wife and I were honoured at our home by MLA Hakam Singh, block president Mansa Khan, and fellow villagers. It was a proud moment for our family.”
Navdeep Kaur: Netball Star
Navdeep Kaur works in the Haryana education department as a Physical Assistant Teacher. She has competed in several national-level netball competitions and represented Haryana in inter-university tournaments, all-India inter-zonal events, South Asian Championships, and the Asian Netball Championship.
In 2024, she served as vice-captain of the Indian team at the Asian Netball Championship. Navdeep said, “Being honoured in my own village was a truly special moment.”
