: A major twist unfolded in the Haryana sexual harassment case as social activist Sunil Kapoor allegedly shot himself dead during a police cordon in Dehradun.

Police Cordon in Dehradun Ends in Tragedy

According to Haryana Police, a joint team from Haryana, Haridwar, and Dehradun police raided Kapoor’s hideout after receiving location details. He was reportedly staying at a relative’s home.

When police, with help from family members, tried to open the locked room, Kapoor allegedly panicked and shot himself. Officials confirmed that the incident happened during a cordon led in coordination with Uttarakhand Police.

Allegations Against Former SP Sumit Kumar

Kapoor had earlier been accused of circulating a viral letter in which several women police personnel accused former Jind SP Sumit Kumar of sexual exploitation.

  • The Haryana government gave Sumit Kumar a clean chit, closing the case.

  • However, the Women’s Commission expressed dissatisfaction and demanded a deeper probe.

Despite this, Kapoor faced criminal charges under the IT Act and other sections for allegedly being linked to the viral letter.

Previous Encounter With Police

The Jind Police also alleged that Kapoor had previously opened fire on a CIA team. This increased pressure on law enforcement to track him down.

CIA staff in-charge Manish Kumar stated:

“After locating him in Dehradun, our team conducted the raid. Kapoor locked himself inside a room and shot himself when police attempted entry.”
