Mohali Logs Season’s First Covid-19 Case
Punjab has recorded its first Covid-19 case of the season after a 51-year-old woman from Yamunanagar, Haryana, tested positive while receiving treatment in Mohali. The exact Covid variant is still under investigation.
Patient Detected During Hospital Stay
The woman was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali, where routine testing confirmed the Covid infection. Although she will be counted in Haryana’s Covid records, Punjab’s health authorities have activated strict safety protocols.
Containment Protocols in Place
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed that the hospital area has been isolated, and Covid-19 protocols are in full effect. She emphasized, “There’s no need for panic. The situation is under control, and we are taking all preventive steps.”
All Hospitals on Alert
Hospitals in the district have been advised to screen all incoming patients and stay alert for any symptoms of Covid. Health teams are actively monitoring the situation.
Genome Sequencing Underway
Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said the patient’s samples have been sent for genome sequencing to identify the Covid variant. She assured that all actions are being taken as per state and national health guidelines.
Initial Diagnosis Suspected Typhoid
Hospital staff initially believed the woman was suffering from typhoid due to her high fever. The Covid-19 diagnosis was confirmed during routine testing.
