Festivities erupted in Nandgarh village, Jind district, Haryana, as locals celebrated Rekha Gupta’s appointment as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini congratulated Gupta, calling her “Haryana’s daughter.”
A Historic Appointment
Gupta is the second woman from Haryana to lead Delhi after the late Sushma Swaraj. Notably, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also has roots in Haryana’s Siwani village in Bhiwani district.

In a post on X, CM Nayab Singh Saini praised Gupta’s leadership:
“A new chapter of Delhi’s progress is about to begin. Under PM Narendra Modi’s guidance, your leadership will drive Delhi’s transformation. Maa Yamuna will be the city’s identity, and the BJP government will modernize Delhi.”
Village Celebrations in Nandgarh
In Nandgarh, women distributed ladoos, and villagers rejoiced. Shakuntala, a local resident, expressed pride, calling it a historic moment for the village. Rajbir, another villager, shared that Gupta’s grandfather Maniram lived in Nandgarh, while her father was a bank official.
“What can be greater than our village’s daughter becoming Delhi’s CM? We are all celebrating this moment,” Rajbir said.
Gupta’s Political Journey
Rekha Gupta, 50, is a former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president and municipal councillor. She becomes Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi.
Swearing-in Ceremony
The grand oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Ramlila Maidan, with PM Narendra Modi and other dignitaries in attendance.
